Director’s Authentic Leadership of Government Institution

A leader, and his leadership, play an important role in achieving organization objectives, and authentic leaders lead with their heart. The present study aimed to discover the authentic leadership of government institution director. Authentic leadership behaviors included in this study consisted of six aspects or dimensions: self-awareness, purpose/hope, values/ethics, relationship, self-discipline/authentic behavior, and transparency. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Research subject was determined through purposive sampling technique, yielding a total of 45 respondents. Data collection techniques used in this study were interviews, observation, and documentation. The data were analyzed using the descriptive. The results of the study showed that, based on employees’ perception, the director of government institution possessed the six aspects of authentic leadership. Hence, it was concluded that the government institution director possessed authentic leadership.
