THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PRINCIPAL PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL INSTRUMENTS
SURURI and ASEP SURYANA

UPI

Inaccurate performance appraisal instruments might lead to imprecise performance evaluation. The effectiveness of principal performance appraisal depends a lot on the effectiveness of the evaluation instrument. Based on this issue, this study aimed at analyzing the effectiveness of the instruments for evaluating the performance of state senior high schools’ principals within the area of the Education Agency of West Bandung Regency. The results showed that the instruments could not completely exhibit schools’ development and principals’ professional development. The instruments had high relevancy, sensitivity, reliability, acceptability, and practicality. Nevertheless, the objectivity of the assessors was still questionable. Besides, the results of principal performance appraisal could be utilized for many purposes such as clarifying the principals’ roles and changing the current policy. The fact showed that the benefits of this evaluation had not completely reached these principals.
